An immature White-crowned Sparrow I saw on the river a while ago. White-crowns and White-throated Sparrows seem to be around a lot recently.

I don’t think it’s a White-crowned Sparrow. Even the immatures are clear-breasted and this bird has heavy streaks. But I’m not sure what it is. Sort of like a Song Sparrow, but has a big eye and no central breast spot. Maybe a finch of some kind?
I stand corrected. Really young ones do have breast streaks. You can tell it’s recently fledged by the yellow gape flanges. I see lots of immatures on fall migration and they have clear breasts, but I’ve never seen a juvenile like this right after fledging.
They are so cute!
Wow! I didn’t know juvenile White-throated Sparrows looked like that!
