I’ve decided to create a 2018 calendar, filled with my photos. All my photos are Alberta birds (though not all common in Alberta – see the Black-throated Blue Warbler taken in Canmore, AB). The thing is, I don’t know which photos to pick! there are twelve months in the year, plus a cover photo, so I need thirteen picks before the October! Please vote in the comments, with a first pick, second choice, etc. Here are my twenty-four candidates:

I think the RUHU is the big winner. That is a wonderful shot. As for the others, even though they are good images, I would nix the ones that are frequently seen on cards, calendars etc. such as the loon, chickadee, bald eagle. My other choices include HAFL and HASP.
Definitely the Rufous and the Pelicans, I also love the Townsend Warblers, the Short-Eared Owl, the Loons, the Yellow Warbler, the Godwit, the Black-Throated Blue, the Boreal and, actually, the Rock Pigeon. It’s great to have a variety of types of birds, so the Baldy would be a good inclusion too.
My favorites are LISP (!!), WETA, STGR, HADU, YRWA, and RUHU. I also love AMDI, TOWA, SEOW, HAFL, WETA, YEWA. 😀

These are excellent photos. I’ve just lost an hour to trying to help you decide! I agree with what Caroline says about considering your audience. These are in no particular order, but I like Caroline’s way of grouping choices.

ALTERNATES: MAGO BOCH SOSP BTBW WETA and the unnamed black, white and yellow one.
Calendars are a great idea. I’ve been making them for about 10 years, and it’s fun to go back and look at the older ones now and then. I’ve been giving them to family and good friends, so the photos I choose are not always the ones that I like best – I try to mix up landscapes, flowers, and butterflies in with the birds. So, when picking photos, it’s good to keep your intended recipients in mind. If it’s just for you, then the photos you choose would be different – you might have some that have some emotional value like the SEOW or BTBW.
Here’s my selection. I’ve ranked them by the ones I think must be in the calendar, then the other ones I would choose.
